The Windsor Day of Celebration and Achievement is held annually to acknowledge all those who have attained the King’s Scout Award, the highest achievement for Explorers and Scout Network members. Usually hosted on the Sunday nearest to St. George’s Day, the special occasion sees all King’s Scout Award holders and invited guests to join the Chief Scout and other dignitaries to recognise their achievements in a parade around the Quadrangle in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

This year’s event on Sunday 26th April was attended by Scout Association Joint President, His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, and Chief Scout Dwayne Fields.

We are incredibly proud to share that one of our very own, Jordan Dutt, has achieved the King’s Scout Award and was among those taking part in the parade – making headlines in our local press.

Jordan’s achievement recognises many years of commitment, leadership, personal challenge and service to others, and truly represents the very best of Scouting. Jordan also serves as an Explorer Scout Leader and a Stevenage Scout District Trustee, supporting young people and the wider District both in and out of uniform.

We invited Jordan to share more about his journey:

After joining Stevenage Scouts at the age of six as a Beaver, I have progressed through every section of the movement – Cub, Scout, Explorer, Network member, and now leader. Scouting has been a constant in my life and the source of many of my happiest, proudest, and most memorable experiences. Scouting has given me so many opportunities – from building confidence and lifelong friendships to trying things I never imagined I would do.

Through Scouting, I have travelled to six countries – Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, and South Korea – each providing unique experiences that have helped shape my love of travel and adventure. Two of the most memorable experiences were attending the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015 as a participant, and in South Korea in 2023 as a leader. The event brings together over 35,000 young people from across the globe. The World Scout Jamboree is an incredible experience – bringing together thousands of young people from different cultures to share stories, learn from one another, and most importantly, have fun.

Inspired by my own journey, becoming a leader was a natural next step – I wanted to give something back to a movement that has given me so much. I now lead Stevenage’s Explorer Scout Unit, delivering a varied programme of activities, camps, and opportunities, while providing a safe and supportive space for young people aged 14 to 18 to be themselves, learn new skills and spend time with like-minded individuals. It’s a privilege to lead such an inspiring group of young people – seeing them grow in confidence and develop new skills is incredibly rewarding.

The young people I work with were a key motivation in pursuing the King’s Scout Award – I wanted to challenge myself, but also to show young people what they can achieve if they push themselves and believe in their abilities. Since completing the award, I have shared my journey with the Explorer Unit and have already seen others inspired to follow the same path. It’s amazing to see the next generation aiming high and wanting to make a difference, and I hope they take the leap into leadership in the coming years.

Congratulations to Jordan on this outstanding achievement. We look forward to celebrating many more King’s Scout Awards within Stevenage in the years to come.
