More than 170 young people joined us at the Well End Activty Centre over the weekend of 18 to 20 September 2026 for our District Camp.

Judging by the number of tired faces on Monday morning, it’s safe to say the camp was a huge success. One parent summed it up perfectly:

“Well that was an interesting school run… was not impressed by being awake and having to move and function… there were many tears!

A clear sign of a good camp! Good job team!”

Our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities. From chasing giant bubbles and tackling the blind person’s trail to crate stacking, pioneering, crafts and mini golf, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

For those looking for a challenge, activities included rifle shooting, archery, X-Shot and crossbow challenges, while others enjoyed getting creative around camp or making flatbread, with marshmallow spread proving to be a particularly popular choice!

Events on this scale don’t happen by accident. Behind every activity, meal, risk assessment and piece of equipment is an incredible team of volunteers working tirelessly to create memorable experiences for our young people. It takes an army, military-grade logistics and a huge amount of teamwork to organise a camp for more than 170 participants, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed.

A huge thank you goes to our District Team, the Hertfordshire Scouts County Team, leaders, volunteers, parents, carers and supporters who helped make the weekend possible. We’d also like to give special recognition to our Explorer Scouts and Network members, who played a vital role in running activities and supporting the camp throughout the weekend.

Most importantly, thank you to all of the young people who threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm, determination and good humour. Their energy, laughter and willingness to try new things are what make events like District Camp so special.

The muddy boots will soon be cleaned, the tents packed away and the sleep debt gradually repaid… till the next adventure!
