Scout and Explorer Night Hike 2019

Scout and Explorer Night Hike 2020

The annual District Night Hike and First Aid Competition will not take place in the usual format this year due to the current COVID-19 restrictions.  However we are planning a route that will be available to Scout Leaders to organise a small group hike following the risk assessments in place to allow small group outoor face to face meetings.  It is likey that we will use an online APP to record each groups progress and there will be some suitable `challenges' to complete in place of the incident bases we normally have.  Hopefully it will also be possible to share some photos of the hike.  Individual Troops will be walking at different times and the hikes will be completed late afternoon/early evening to facilitate a sensible pickup time as you will not be able to sleep out after the hike.

More information will be published during November.  Your Scout Leaders will be in touch with dates and times if it is possible to organise a hike for your Troop.

Datchworth Scout HQ

The annual District Night Hike and First Aid Competition takes place during the late Autumn. Teams of between 4 and 7 Scouts, take up the challenge of navigating their way through approximately 9 miles of Hertfordshire countryside by foot.

Walking is broken up by a series of `incident bases', ranging from dealing with a first aid scenario to lighting a small fire to burn through a string line, half a metre from the ground! to mention just two.

For those who like the competitive element, there are trophies for the fastest walking time, the highest score on the incident bases and an overall Night Hike trophy. A trophy will also be awarded to the team gaining the highest score on the First Aid Base
